Police Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi Removed

Adejobi's nomination as Force PRO has been confirmed by the IGP

The Nigeria Police Force has removed its long-serving and controversial spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, from his position as Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to SaharaReporters, Adejobi’s deputy is expected to step in as he proceeds on redeployment to the Delta State Command.

Adejobi, who for years served as the public face of the Force, leaves behind a tenure heavily criticized for scandals and controversies. At the national headquarters, he was often accused of shielding the police from accountability, silencing dissent on social media, and being used as a tool of political repression.

Within the Force, senior officers alleged he was repeatedly embroiled in personal scandals, with some openly accusing him of “women issues.”

Despite these controversies, Adejobi was elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, a promotion that drew widespread outrage and questions over his fitness for higher office.

His conduct also attracted international attention after human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju petitioned the U.S. Embassy, urging it to revoke his visa over alleged abuses of power.

Among his alleged victims was nurse Olamide Thomas, who accused him of retaliation after rejecting his advances, and UK-based Dorcas Adeyinka, who sued him for human rights violations after claiming he framed her for murder.

Following such allegations, Adejobi reportedly reduced his direct media visibility, choosing instead to operate through proxy platforms such as Ndigbo Young Professionals, South West Youth Alliance, Swift Reporters, and The Integrity Youth Alliance, managed by his close associates Kehinde Adewole, Ibrahim Mustapha, and Danjuma Lamido.

One infamous case involved activist Omoyele Sowore, whose Ray-Ban glasses were allegedly stolen by Adejobi’s cameraman during a #PoliceProtest. The theft, caught on video, forced the police to return the glasses after Sowore publicly identified the cameraman.

Reacting to Adejobi’s removal, Sowore described him as “one of the worst policemen ever recruited into the Nigeria Police Force,” accusing him of embodying the systemic rot that rewards misconduct while punishing integrity. His comments came shortly after a statement signed by Adejobi defended Sowore’s recent arrest, even as witnesses claimed officers under Adejobi broke the activist’s hand during detention.

Police insiders have described Adejobi’s redeployment as the end of a turbulent chapter in the Force Headquarters’ Public Relations Department.
