Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio and three former Real Madrid youth-team players will face trial over allegations they recorded and/or non-consensually distributed sexual videos involving a minor, Spain’s General Council of the Judiciary said on Thursday.
A court in Las Palmas confirmed the opening of oral proceedings against the four men in a case concerning the recording or non-consensual dissemination of sexually explicit material involving a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, according to the judiciary statement.
The court’s ruling, dated September 2, is final and not subject to appeal. A start date for the trial has not yet been announced.
Asencio, 22, acknowledged in May that he was one of the individuals publicly named in connection with the investigation but has protested his innocence. He told the media at the time that he had not been accused of filming the video and denied any criminal wrongdoing.
The matter dates back to June 2023, when three unnamed youth players were arrested at Real Madrid’s training centre after a complaint from the mother of the 16-year-old. Spanish press accounts at the time reported that a consensual encounter had been recorded and later circulated without the young woman’s consent.
Reports of the affair provoked hostile reactions at some Spanish stadiums, where fans were heard jeering and chanting at Asencio following circulation of the allegations.
Because the case involves alleged offences with minors, court documents and coverage have omitted identifying details of victims. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
