Sergio Busquets Announces Retirement from Football

Sergio Busquets, one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the current MLS season.

The 36-year-old Spanish icon, who joined Inter Miami in 2023 to reunite with former teammate Lionel Messi, confirmed that he will hang up his boots in a few weeks, bringing an end to a glittering career spanning over 15 years at the very top level.

Busquets rose to prominence at Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, becoming the heartbeat of the Catalan side’s midfield during their era of dominance. With his intelligence, calmness on the ball, and unrivalled positional play, he won every major trophy available — including three Champions League titles, eight La Liga crowns, and the FIFA World Cup with Spain in 2010.
