Actress-turned-singer Shalate Sekhabi is ready to open a bold new chapter in her career, this time in music.
The former House of Zwide star recently took to Instagram with a teaser captioned “Music on the way”, confirming that her debut EP, “Xa Ungekho” — which translates to “When You Are Not Here” — will officially drop on September 26, 2025.
For the past five years, Shalate has been a household name thanks to her beloved role as Shoki in the e.tv daily drama House of Zwide.
Her powerful performance quickly cemented her as a fan favourite and one of South Africa’s brightest rising stars. Earlier this year, she showcased her versatility by joining Netflix’s young-adult series Go! as Nthabi, proving her ability to shine across different genres.
In July 2025, the actress said an emotional goodbye to House of Zwide after four years on the show, marking the end of a defining chapter. “This is very bittersweet for me because I will miss playing Shoki.
I played her for four years, and most of you know me as her. It’s because of this character that I’ve become a household name and got my start in this industry,” she shared on Instagram.
She went on to thank her fans and the production team for their support: “I want to thank Bomb Productions, e.tv, and all the fans for their incredible support over the years.
This is truly the end of an era, but all chapters have to end at some point. I look forward to my future endeavours and sharing more work with all of you.”
Now, with her debut EP set to release, Shalate is embarking on an exciting new journey in music while keeping her fanbase eager and engaged. Whether on screen or through her songs, Shalate Sekhabi continues to prove that she is an entertainer to watch in 2025 and beyond.
