World record holder Tobi Amusan has secured her place in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
The 28-year-old Nigerian sprinted to victory in 12.53s, finishing first in heat six on Sunday and booking an automatic qualification spot. Tobi Amusan was followed by Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton (12.69s) and Italy’s Elena Carraro (12.86s).
Other top contenders, including Olympic champion Masai Russell (USA), reigning world champion Danielle Williams (Jamaica), and Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser, also progressed comfortably from their heats.
Amusan will be back on track on Tuesday for the semi-finals and final of the 100m hurdles.
In other Team Nigeria news, Sade Olatoye fell short of qualification in the women’s hammer throw after managing a best of 68.82m, while Kanyisola Ajayi and Israel Okon are set to feature later on Sunday in the men’s 100m semi-finals and final.
