Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stated that the will of God and the mandate of the people will determine who wins the 2027 governorship election in the state. He warned that nobody should contemplate rigging results against the people’s will.
The Governor issued this warning at the Government House, Umuahia, on Thursday, during the October edition of Alex Otti Speaks to Abians. Addressing those planning to manipulate the electoral process, Otti said such individuals should first write their wills.
Governor Otti’s remarks came in response to a journalist’s question regarding a recent statement credited to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who had declared that his party, the APC, would take over the leadership of Abia in 2027.
Otti dismissed any fear of Kalu’s comments, asserting that the Deputy Speaker is free to contest the election but must abide by democratic principles.
“I have heard that some people around him say oh, they must take over this State, they must write results but the only advice I have for them is that if they truly want to write results, they should write something else before that time.
You know what it is? Their will,” Otti said.
The Governor described Kalu as his friend and younger brother, noting that he had forgiven him for previous remarks made against his personality and administration. He urged all political actors to maintain the peace and decorum currently enjoyed in Abia State.
The governor also reiterated during the media chat that he remains a member of the Labour Party and has no intention of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
