Pop superstar Britney Spears has made a startling revelation, claiming she suffered “brain damage” as a result of her traumatic experiences during her controversial conservatorship.
In a post shared to Instagram on Sunday night, the 43-year-old singer uploaded a photo of herself on horseback with her back turned to the camera. Alongside the image, Britney Spears penned a deeply emotional caption describing a painful period when she was allegedly monitored by a bodyguard “stationed at [her] door for four months.”
“It did more than hurt my body… trust me there’s A LOT I didn’t share in my book and still things at this very moment I’ve kept hidden because it’s incredibly painful and sad,” Spears wrote, referencing her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me.
“I do feel the logic and mindfulness in my body as ONE was 100 percent murdered and destroyed. I couldn’t dance or move for five months.”
Britney Spears’ 13-year conservatorship — which granted her father, Jamie Spears, extensive control over her life and finances — was officially terminated in 2021 after years of public scrutiny and legal battles.
The Gimme More singer went on to compare her own life to that of Maleficent, the Disney character portrayed by Angelina Jolie in the 2014 fantasy film.
“At the end of the movie she goes to a church and somehow finds her wings. Protector of the Moors considered a villain but actually one with mother nature… animals would bow to her… she was brilliant in that movie,” Britney wrote.
“I do feel like my wings were taken away and brain damage happened to me a long time ago 100 percent… I have of course moved on from that troubling time in my life and I’m blessed to be alive.”
Representatives for the singer have yet to respond to her claims or comment on her current health status.
This isn’t the first time Britney Spears has spoken about physical ailments. In November 2022, she revealed that she was suffering from nerve damage on the right side of her body, though she didn’t disclose the cause at the time.
In closing her emotional post, Britney Spears appeared to take a subtle swipe at her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, who recently made unflattering claims about her parenting and personal life in his memoir You Thought You Knew.
“It’s fun to tell stories at this point because this all might sound so silly but with what garbage literally is being said about me I said why not bring SUBSTANCE to the table (sic),” she wrote.
The post has since drawn widespread concern and sympathy from fans, reigniting conversations about the lingering effects of Spears’ conservatorship years on her mental and physical wellbeing.
