Rapper Cardi B has opened up about why she fiercely defended her children during her recent online feud with Nicki Minaj, describing the experience as a powerful test of her strength as a mother.
The I Like It rapper and Nicki, the Super Bass hitmaker, made headlines last week after a heated exchange of insults on X (formerly Twitter) that spanned several days — with both stars even making comments about each other’s children.
Though the two later issued partial apologies, Cardi B reflected on the situation in her new interview with Paper magazine, published on Tuesday, where she explained how the confrontation triggered her protective instincts.
“I feel like, definitely this week, my mother warrior came out. I was fighting for my kids,” Cardi said. “This week, I showed the world that I will get the most nasty about mine… because I never had to get that nasty for my kids. But I did, and I really feel like a lioness.”
The 33-year-old rapper admitted that the moment tested her deeply as a parent.
“This has been one of the moments I got tested the most about being a parent. But it just goes to show me how strong I am. I will really take it to hell for mine — mentally, physically, anything. And I wouldn’t care.”
Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, shares three children — daughters Kulture (7) and Blossom (13 months), and son Wave (4) — with her estranged husband, Offset. She is also expecting her fourth child with boyfriend Stefon Diggs.
Beyond the feud, Cardi spoke about her hopes for her children’s future, especially when it comes to inheriting her drive and determination.
“It’s almost like you have to hope that your kids have that work ethic in them, and I just pray that they do,” she shared. “You just got to work and not think too much… Procrastination is what kills you. It’s what slows you.”
Despite the online chaos, Cardi B’s reflections reveal a softer side — a devoted mother determined to protect her family and instill in them the same hustle that has defined her rise to superstardom.
