Abia State Governor Alex Otti turned an unexpected power outage during a graduation ceremony in Abuja into a proud moment for his state, declaring that such problems no longer exist in the city of Aba.
The brief interruption occurred while Otti was delivering his speech. Once power was restored, the governor seized the moment to highlight Abia’s progress in electricity supply, telling the audience that Aba no longer experiences blackouts—a statement that drew loud applause from the crowd.
His comments come amid significant milestones in Abia State’s power sector reforms. Earlier in February, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially inaugurated the long-awaited Geometric Power Plant in Aba, a project first conceived two decades ago by former Minister of Power Barth Nnaji.
Since the plant’s commissioning, residents of Aba have celebrated what many describe as a new era of steady electricity, with some reporting up to 48 hours of uninterrupted power. The development has sparked excitement and praise across social media, positioning Aba as one of the few cities in Nigeria enjoying reliable energy supply.
Governor Otti’s spontaneous remark in Abuja not only underscored the progress in Abia State but also highlighted the potential impact of sustainable infrastructure investments on local economies and quality of life.
