Reality star Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner have filed a lawsuit against singer Ray J, accusing him of defamation after he publicly claimed they were under a federal racketeering investigation.
Court documents filed by their attorney, Alex Spiro, revealed that Ray J first made the allegations earlier this year in TMZ’s documentary United States vs. Sean Combs, and repeated them during a September 24 livestream to millions of viewers.
“Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian have never brought a defamation claim before … but this false and serious allegation left no choice,” Spiro said, according to People.
The suit alleges Ray J has engaged in a “sustained campaign of harassment and defamation” against Kardashian and Jenner for over two decades, dating back to his brief relationship with Kim in the early 2000s.
Lawyers for the Kardashians insisted there is no federal investigation, slamming Ray J’s remarks as “reckless disregard for the truth” and “malicious defamatory conduct.”
The legal move marks the first time either Kim or Kris has filed a defamation suit, despite their long and rocky history with Ray J — from the leak of their infamous sex tape to his 2013 diss track I Hit It First and ongoing tabloid drama.
