Singer Seyi Shay has addressed her long-standing feud with fellow Nigerian artiste Tiwa Savage, revealing that she holds no grudge and is willing to reconcile.
In an interview with Punch Saturday Beats, Seyi responded to Tiwa’s recent remarks about their rift, clarifying misconceptions surrounding their past differences.
Speaking on the claim that she replaced Tiwa on a Pepsi campaign while Tiwa was pregnant, Seyi explained:
“That period was purely a brand decision, not a personal one. I have never had any reason to celebrate another woman’s challenge or misfortune. I respect Tiwa’s journey deeply. She’s an incredible artiste and a trailblazer. There’s no bad blood on my end; only respect and acknowledgment of her contribution to the industry.”
Reflecting on their fallout and diss track years ago, Seyi admitted that both artists were navigating the pressures of a competitive music scene.
“We were both under pressure and navigating a very competitive industry. When emotions run high, it’s easy to miscommunicate or react defensively. Time and maturity have given both of us a clearer perspective. If I could go back, I would choose communication over confrontation.”
On whether she would be open to sitting down with Tiwa Savage to settle their differences, she said:
“Yes, I would. Life is too short for lingering tension. If having that conversation helps heal narratives and sets a better example for women in music, I’m open to it, whether privately or publicly. We’ve both come a long way, and I think there’s strength in showing that women can rise above old narratives.”
The feud between the two dates back to 2021, when a video of their confrontation at a Lagos salon went viral. Their fallout reportedly stemmed from a diss track and claims that Tiwa had allegedly blocked opportunities for other female artistes.
In a recent interview on OffAir with Gbemi and Toolz, Tiwa Savage denied ever sabotaging anyone’s career, saying that although she was hurt by the diss track, she has since moved on.
