“She is just doing it for attention” – Senate President Akpabio Dismisses Murder, Betrayal Allegations by Sister-in-Law Pat Akpabio

Court of Appeal sacks Godswill Akpabio as APC senatorial candidate

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed the serious allegations of murder, betrayal, and neglect made against him by his sister-in-law, Pastor Pat Akpabio, describing them as baseless, attention-seeking, and politically motivated.

In a statement released through his spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio urged Pat to report her claims to the appropriate security agencies instead of using social media to spread unverified accusations.

“Killing is at the heart of our criminal justice administration. So, I expect a citizen who is aware of the commission of such a crime to be honest enough and report it to the appropriate authorities,” Eyiboh said, as quoted by Premium Times.

He continued, “The issue of murder is not something to use for political vendetta. The law is very clear — whoever asserts must prove.”

Eyiboh further defended Akpabio’s reputation, describing him as “a very humble and strong family person,” while insisting that a quest for attention drove Pat’s allegations.

“She is just doing it for attention. Who is going to give her that attention? The Senate President is very busy,” Eyiboh added, stressing that the claims would not affect Akpabio’s public image.

Pat Akpabio, who is married to Akpabio’s brother, Ibanga Akpabio, had in a Facebook video posted on October 11 accused the Senate President of being responsible for “many killings” in Akwa Ibom State during his tenure as governor.

She also alleged that Akpabio neglected his hometown, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, which she claimed had been without electricity for weeks, and accused him of betraying several political allies including Umana Okon Umana, Nsima Ekere, Akan Udofia, and Bassey Albert.

Pat vowed to contest against Akpabio in the 2027 senatorial election, warning him to “go home and take care of himself” after his current tenure. She also cautioned President Bola Tinubu to be wary of Akpabio and threatened to release more damaging information.

“You know I love you. I don’t hate you. I love you because you are a brother to my husband. I stood by you in 2019 when people wrote all sorts of things against you. Did I collect 10 kobo from you? Today, you have the audacity to say that you are the one that made me,” she said.

Before venturing into politics, Godswill Akpabio worked as a teacher and lawyer at Paul Usoro & Co., and later served as the Managing Director/CEO of EMIS Telecoms Limited before becoming governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2007.
