Fashion entrepreneur and actress Temi Otedola, daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, has opened up about her decision to take her husband’s surname after marrying singer Mr Eazi.
A Personal Choice
In an interview with the BBC on Wednesday, the 29-year-old explained that the name change was her personal decision as a married woman.
“I’m now a married woman, the obvious thing for me is to take my husband’s name. But it’s my personal choice. I also respect a woman’s ability to choose. Moving in silence allows you to build the story you want and share it when and how you’re ready,” Temi said.
She added that keeping her relationship private has allowed her to control her narrative and avoid unnecessary external pressure.
A Three-Part Wedding Across the Globe
Temi Otedola and Mr Eazi, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, tied the knot in a grand three-part celebration that spanned Monaco, Dubai, and Iceland.
-
Civil Ceremony (May 2024): Held at the Mairie de Monaco in Monte Carlo.
-
Traditional Yoruba Wedding (July 2024): Hosted at the Otedola family home in Dubai, featuring King Sunny Adé.
-
White Wedding (August 2024): Took place at Hallgrímskirkja Church in Reykjavik, Iceland, with John Legend performing.
The glamorous events attracted top names in fashion and entertainment, underscoring the couple’s global influence.
Name Change Sparks Online Debate
Following the ceremonies, Temi updated her social media handles to Temi Ajibade, a move that sparked conversations online. While some applauded her decision as a symbol of commitment, others debated whether high-profile women should retain their maiden names for brand identity.
For Temi, however, the choice reflects her personal values: a balance of individuality, love, and privacy.
