Former U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing the possibility of commuting Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison sentence as early as this week.
The 55-year-old music mogul is currently serving 50 months in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation for the purposes of prostitution. He was, however, acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges earlier this month.
According to TMZ, a senior White House source revealed that Trump is “vacillating” on whether to move forward with the commutation. While some aides are reportedly advising against the move, the source noted that “Trump will do what he wants.”
Diddy has so far served 13 months of his sentence under the Mann Act and could be eligible for release in about two years without any special consideration. However, a commutation from Trump would effectively end his sentence immediately.
Following Diddy’s sentencing, his legal team is said to have reached out to a senior White House official close to Trump to explore options for either a commutation or a full pardon.
Days later, Trump publicly acknowledged the request, saying during a press briefing on October 6:
“I have had a lot of people ask me for pardons. I call him Puff Daddy — he has asked me for a pardon.”
This development follows Trump’s recent decision to commute former Congressman George Santos’ 87-month sentence for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, which was announced on October 18.
If approved, Diddy’s commutation would mark another high-profile intervention by the former president in the criminal justice system.
