Governor Alex Otti Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to Labour Party

Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that he has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement released by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government described the rumours as a fabrication by political propagandists unsettled by the governor’s rising popularity and record of good governance.

Prince Kanu emphasized that Governor Otti remains a dedicated and proud member of the Labour Party, noting that the publication was a desperate attempt to distract the public and sow confusion.

“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve. His focus remains unshaken — to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the state,” the statement read.

The Commissioner further recalled that during the October edition of ‘Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians’, the governor made it clear that his priority lies in service to humanity and the transformation of Abia State, not in political scheming or defections.

“Leadership, to him, is about impact, not political convenience,” Kanu stated.

He reiterated that the Otti-led administration remains committed to transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and restoring public trust in governance — all of which align with the Labour Party’s core ideals.

The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard the false report, describing it as cheap propaganda designed to distract from the tangible progress being recorded in Abia State under Governor Otti’s leadership.
