Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has refuted claims suggesting he intends to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming that he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayose made the clarification on Wednesday during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.
The outspoken politician explained that his support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election was out of personal respect and regional solidarity, not an indication of defection.
“The PDP’s problem did not start today. I am not a member of the APC and I will never be. I didn’t hide my support for Asiwaju; I consider him a leader in Nigeria and particularly from our zone,” Fayose stated.
He described President Tinubu as a respected national leader, particularly from the South-West, but reiterated that his political allegiance remains firmly with the PDP.
Fayose’s remarks come amid a wave of defections from the opposition party, as several PDP governors, lawmakers, and senior members have recently crossed over to the APC.
