President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to commiserate with the state government and reassure parents and guardians of the recently abducted schoolgirls that the Federal Government is fully committed to securing their prompt release.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu also extended his condolences to the Nigerian military following the deaths of Brigadier General Musa Uba and several gallant soldiers who were killed in active combat against insurgents in Borno State. According to the statement, the President—having received a comprehensive briefing on both tragic incidents—expressed deep distress over the abductions, especially given earlier intelligence reports warning of a possible bandit attack.
He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for proactive measures taken to prevent the kidnapping and condemned the security breach that led to the abduction of students from a girls’ boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State. President Tinubu further appealed to communities nationwide, particularly those in regions grappling with insecurity, to collaborate with security agencies by sharing timely information that could help prevent attacks.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am deeply saddened by the loss of our brave officers and soldiers on active duty. May God console the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and our other fallen heroes,” the President said.
He also expressed sorrow over the disruption of the education of innocent schoolgirls by “heartless terrorists,” noting that he has instructed the security agencies to act swiftly to ensure their safe return.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us without the cooperation of Nigerians and local communities. I urge community leaders and citizens across the country—especially those in operational theatres—to share useful information. Your cooperation is crucial in our collective fight against these security challenges,” President Tinubu added.
