Renowned gospel singer and trumpeter Nathaniel Bassey has achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first Nigerian gospel artiste to surpass 400 million streams on Spotify.

According to music data platform The Debut Hub, Bassey joins 43 Nigerian artistes who have reached this impressive streaming benchmark across all credits on the platform.

At 43 years old, Nathaniel Bassey stands among Africa’s most-streamed gospel artistes, with timeless hits such as “Imela,” “Onise Iyanu,” “Adonai,” and “Olorun Agbaye (You Are Mighty)” contributing to his global success and influence.

Born on August 27, 1981, in Lagos State, the Akwa Ibom native began his career as a jazz trumpeter before fully embracing gospel music.

His signature trumpet-led worship style and the viral Hallelujah Challenge — an online worship session that draws thousands of participants worldwide — have cemented his place as one of the most inspiring figures in contemporary Christian music.

Beyond music, Nathaniel Bassey serves as a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and leads The Oasis, a youth expression of RCCG King’s Court in Victoria Island, Lagos.

By crossing the 400 million Spotify streams milestone, Nathaniel joins Nigerian global stars such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, further solidifying Nigeria’s influence on the world music stage — both in gospel and mainstream genres.
