Businessman and socialite Obi Cubana has made a direct appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for urgent intervention in the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement shared across his social media platforms, Cubana warned that true peace and stability in the South-East cannot be restored without Kanu’s freedom. He expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation across the country, noting that Nigeria is currently experiencing a distressing climate of fear and instability.
He referenced several recent developments that have heightened national anxiety:
Nigeria’s designation by the United States as a “Country of Particular Concern,” the continued kidnappings of students, violent attacks on places of worship, the killing of a Brigadier General, and the sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu. According to him, these incidents have plunged the nation into a troubled and uneasy state.
Cubana also revealed that he and other influential Nigerians have met with key political figures — including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President’s son — to discuss urgent national matters.
Reiterating the sentiment he says is widely shared across the South-East, Cubana declared:
“One thing is very clear: no Igbo man or woman will have peace if MNK does not regain his freedom, and Ala Igbo will never be the same again.”
He acknowledged the rising tensions but emphasized the collective resolve:
“Tempers are high, but we all want MNK out, and we will never rest until he is free.”
He added that while emotions are elevated, productive dialogue remains the path forward.
“Constructive agitations remain the bedrock upon which great societies are built, but solutions will only be found at the negotiation table,” he stated.
Obi Cubana’s message adds to the growing chorus of voices urging a political resolution to Kanu’s detention.
