Platinum-selling singer D4vd has been identified as a suspect in the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose decomposed remains were discovered on 8 September in the trunk of a Tesla registered in his name.
According to NBC News, which cited a Los Angeles Police Department source with direct knowledge of the investigation, the artist — born David Anthony Burke — has not been formally charged. Investigators believe the teenager likely died in the spring and that the Romantic Homicide singer may have received assistance in dismembering and disposing of the body. The LAPD source also claimed that D4vd has not been cooperative, contradicting a September statement from his spokesperson asserting he was “fully cooperating with authorities.”
The discovery was made after employees at a Hollywood tow yard reported a foul odour and a swarm of flies coming from the vehicle, according to a search-warrant affidavit obtained by Rolling Stone. Rivas Hernandez, who would have turned 15 the day before her remains were found, had been missing for months.
D4vd was reportedly out of state on a national tour when news of the recovered remains broke. He performed in Minneapolis the day after the discovery, but the remainder of his tour was soon cancelled.
The 20-year-old singer has yet to make any public comment regarding the case.
