“My best friends are my sisters” – Sunshine Rosman Opens Up About Losing Her Father and Finding Healing Through Acting

Sunshine Rosman Opens Up About Losing Her Father and Finding Healing Through Acting

Nigerian-Canadian actress Sunshine Rosman has opened up about the emotional impact of losing her father and how she found solace in her work.

Speaking on the Open Up podcast with Amanda Dara, the To Kill a Monkey star revealed that acting became her form of therapy in the wake of her father’s death.

“I was able to work away a lot of emotions. People say time heals; I don’t think it does,” she shared.

Sunshine, known for her calm yet powerful screen presence, described how her parents have always been her biggest inspirations — shaping the values that guide her both personally and professionally.

“The more I’ve advanced in life, the more I’ve realised that my parents have always been my true role models. My mum and dad set such wonderful examples for me that I don’t desperately desire to be anybody but them,” she said.

She added that while she strives to emulate them, she also hopes to break generational cycles by embracing emotional awareness and self-growth.

“Maybe I just want to be a better version of them, a healthier version, because many of our parents had to deal with a lot of toxicity from their own upbringing, which they unknowingly passed down. One has to give them grace for that,” Sunshine added.

Staying Grounded in the Face of Fame

The actress also reflected on the pressures of fame, noting that she keeps herself grounded by surrounding herself with genuine people.

“The expectations people have of you can easily creep into your life and start to affect how you think. But surrounding yourself with the right people makes a big difference. My best friends are my sisters. Outside of my family, I probably have about five true friends, people who are genuinely my friends and whom I hold very dearly,” she said.

Born to a Nigerian mother from Imo State and a Canadian father, Sunshine began her acting career in 2015 and has since starred in several Nollywood films, including When Love Strikes.

Beyond acting, she is known for her outspoken views on self-discovery and emotional wellness. She previously made headlines after stating that marriage is not meant for everyone, emphasizing that personal growth and happiness should always come first.
