Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has voiced concern over what she described as the increasing normalization of sexual harassment in Nigeria, particularly in crowded public spaces.

Speaking during an interview with Tolu Afilaka, the actress said many women experience harassment so frequently that incidents often go unreported or are ignored entirely.

According to Rosman, some busy areas in Lagos have become unsafe for women because inappropriate touching and harassment allegedly happen openly without consequences.

“Do you know how bad sexual harassment is in Lagos?” she asked.

“Go to Yaba as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately.”

Rosman specifically referenced experiences in Yaba, arguing that many women face harassment in crowded environments while bystanders and authorities rarely intervene.

“Everybody hearing this knows that it is true,” she said.

“But till today, nothing is being done about it.”

The actress questioned how safe women truly are in society if harassment can happen openly in public during the daytime without accountability.

“If a man can sexually harass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?” she added.

Rosman also expressed frustration over what she described as inadequate responses from both the public and government institutions regarding women’s safety.

She suggested that the continued silence around harassment leaves many women vulnerable and unsupported.

The actress further raised questions about self-defense and personal protection, asking whether women should be expected to defend themselves if authorities fail to adequately address the issue.

Her comments have since sparked conversations online, with many women sharing similar experiences involving harassment in crowded public spaces, markets, and public transportation systems.

Others stressed the importance of stronger law enforcement, public awareness, and social accountability in addressing harassment and improving safety for women across Nigeria.

The discussion also renewed broader debates around gender based violence, public safety, and cultural attitudes toward harassment in everyday environments.
