The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed excitement over the defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the party.

In a post shared on its verified X handle on Wednesday, the ADC formally welcomed Obi, stating that he enjoys the same rights and privileges as every other member of the party.

“We are delighted to officially welcome the former two-term Governor of Anambra State, and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 General Election, Mr. Peter Obi, into our party, the ADC,” the statement read.

Creebhills reports that Obi defected to the ADC on Wednesday alongside other prominent leaders from the South-East.

Speaking on his decision, Obi said his move to the ADC was driven by a desire to transform and rescue Nigeria.

He further pledged that the opposition party would lawfully and legitimately resist any attempt to rig the 2027 general elections.
