Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has issued a public apology to her colleague, Kemity, after failing to attend her event despite earlier assurances that she would be present.
In an Instagram post, Shokoya explained that she had planned to attend but was held back by home responsibilities, particularly matters involving her mother.
She noted that her absence was not the first time she had missed Kemity’s invitation, which made the situation even more painful.
According to her, she woke up feeling troubled and emotionally affected by her inability to honour the event.
“I was supposed to be somewhere yesterday, but couldn’t because of my mother’s duty. I have been feeling bad about it till this morning. I woke up with a mood swing,” she wrote.
Shokoya added that she had truly looked forward to attending this year and had even promised herself she would not miss it. However, unforeseen circumstances once again prevented her from showing up.
“I realised that it’s because I couldn’t make it to that event yesterday, despite having planned and sworn to attend it this year,” she said.
Expressing her disappointment, she apologised directly to Kemity, describing herself as a fan of her colleague’s craft and acknowledging that Kemity also appreciates her.
“I feel really heartbroken about this because I am a fan of your craft, and I know you appreciate me too. This isn’t the first nor the second time you will invite me; situations then affected my coming.”
Shokoya further expressed her wish for Kemity’s event to continue growing, adding that she hopes to make it in future years.
“Peele Night will go bigger and bigger every year! And by God’s grace, I will be in attendance in the coming years. I love you, and you know it, @kemity.”
She also praised Kemity’s talent and attributes, praying for her continued success.
“Your craft, your growth, your personality, your loyalty, your focus, your determination, your composure, your resilience — all on a hundred. May your light forever shine. Make the woman no vex,” she added.
