Ed Sheeran has given fans an unusually raw glimpse into his personal life, revealing deep strains in his marriage through new songs added to the deluxe edition of his album Play.
The singer released 13 additional tracks, several of which directly address the emotional turbulence he and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, have been navigating.
On War Game, Sheeran admits the couple came dangerously close to separation, singing: “Inches from movin’ out and movin’ on… either in love or we’re insane.” He also reiterates his devotion, noting there is “no one above or below” the woman he loves.
Another track, Problems, paints a bleak picture of their home life: “Flowers in our garden are dying / When did the water run dry? / Who can tell? / But you want the truth, we’re not fine.”
Ed Sheeran and Seaborn, who began dating in 2015 and married in 2018, share two daughters—Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3. In multiple songs, the Grammy winner also reflects on the difficulty of balancing fatherhood with his demanding career.
In Regrets, Ed Sheeran laments how his long absences while touring have affected his children:
“You’re too young to understand that Daddy’s coming home / Every time I leave the house, you think I’m forever gone… Missed out on so much, I really need to make it up.”
The new tracks collectively reveal an artist wrestling with the heavy pressures of fame, marriage, and parenthood — and the personal toll of a career that keeps him constantly away from home.
