Amber Rose has publicly thrown her support behind longtime friend Nicki Minaj following the rapper’s controversial appearance at a Turning Point USA event.
Minaj, 43, formally declared her support for former U.S. President Donald Trump during the high-profile MAGA conference this week. Rose, who previously pledged her allegiance to Trump at the 2024 Republican National Convention, addressed Minaj’s decision in an interview with TMZ.
Reacting to Minaj’s participation, the 42-year-old OnlyFans star said the rapper did “an amazing job” during her conversation with Erica Kirk at the conservative gathering. Rose emphasized that Minaj was entitled to her political views.
“We live in a free country. She has the right to her own political opinion, just like everyone else does,” Rose said.
Rose also defended Minaj against criticism from some LGBTQ fans, who expressed disappointment over the rapper’s support for Trump and her remarks on transgender issues. According to Rose, Minaj did not make any statements targeting the LGBTQ+ community.
“She didn’t say anything wrong. She didn’t say anything about the LGBTQ+ community at all,” Rose stated.
Addressing broader accusations of homophobia often directed at Trump supporters, Rose pushed back against the narrative, citing her personal relationships.
“Why does anybody think that anybody over there [in the Trump administration] is homophobic? I’m not homophobic. My assistant has been with me for eleven years, he’s black and gay,” she said.
Rose added that both she and Minaj have close relationships with transgender friends, arguing that political endorsement should not be conflated with hostility toward LGBTQ individuals.
“I have a bunch of trans friends. So does Nicki. I don’t know why people twist our words or think that because we endorse Trump that we just hate gay people and trans people. It’s just not true,” she said.
