The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has invited billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote to appear before a panel of investigators in Abuja on Monday over a petition he submitted to the agency.
Dangote had earlier written a petition against Farouk Ahmed, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, alleging corruption and abuse of office.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a source within the Commission confirmed the development on Sunday, disclosing that the ICPC has constituted a panel to probe the allegations. The source added that the Chairman of the Commission, Dr Musa Aliyu, SAN, directed the investigative team to give priority attention to Dangote’s petition.
The oil magnate is expected to appear in person or be represented by his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, with relevant evidence when the investigation formally begins.
In his petition, Dangote accused Farouk Ahmed of corruption and misappropriation of public funds, alleging that the former NMDPRA boss spent millions of dollars on the education of his four children in high-end and exclusive schools in Switzerland. He also claimed that Ahmed undermined domestic refining efforts by allegedly colluding with international traders and oil importers through the continued issuance of import licences.
The ICPC has requested that Dangote submit all supporting evidence to aid the anti-graft agency’s investigation.
Although Farouk Ahmed has since resigned from his position, the Commission stated that his resignation does not affect the ongoing probe. According to the petition, Ahmed allegedly spent over seven million dollars on his children’s education abroad without any verifiable lawful source of income.
Dangote is reportedly seeking the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Ahmed for allegedly living beyond his means while serving as a public officer.
Confirming the matter, ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey disclosed that the Commission received a formal petition from Dangote, through his lawyer, on December 16, 2025, against the former chief executive of the NMDPRA.
