Championship side Leicester City have issued an apology to their staff after informing them that December salaries would not be paid until after Christmas, a departure from a long-standing club tradition.
According to Daily Mail Sport, staff were notified via email that salaries would be paid on December 31, rather than earlier in the month as had been customary in recent years to allow employees access to their wages before the festive period.
The decision applies across the club, including players and management. Leicester City has, however, stressed that the move is not linked to any financial difficulties, maintaining that the club’s finances remain stable.
Despite the assurance, the decision is understood to have caused discontent among staff, largely due to the short notice given. The email, reportedly sent by interim managing director Kamonthip Netthanomsak, was circulated only on Thursday.
In the message, Netthanomsak acknowledged that early December payment had become a valued tradition at the club and expressed regret over the lack of advance notice, apologising for any inconvenience caused to staff during the festive period.
