Popular TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has spoken publicly following a car crash on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos earlier this month.
In a video shared online, Peller apologised to Nigerians, admitting that his emotions overwhelmed him while he was driving. He pleaded for understanding, insisting the incident was not intentional.
“Nigerians, I am sorry for everything I did. I let my emotions get over me. You can abuse and call me names, but please, I am sorry. I did not do it intentionally,” he said.
Footage from the incident showed the influencer visibly distressed moments before his vehicle crashed into a road barrier. In the aftermath, Peller urged the public not to direct blame or anger toward fellow content creator Jarvis, stressing that she had nothing to do with the incident.
Following the crash, Peller was taken into police custody for questioning. The Lagos State Police Command described his actions as reckless and dangerous, confirming that investigations are ongoing.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also condemned the incident, warning that using mobile phones or recording content while driving violates traffic regulations. The agency disclosed that steps had been initiated to prosecute Peller for distracted and reckless driving.
According to authorities, the crash occurred after Peller lost control of his vehicle while driving at high speed and recording a video. Although no fatalities were recorded, officials noted that the incident could have resulted in serious loss of life.
The FRSC further cautioned social media influencers against using public roads as content-creation spaces, emphasizing that traffic laws apply equally to all road users regardless of status or popularity.
Public reaction has been divided, with some Nigerians calling for strict legal action to serve as a deterrent, while others have urged authorities to balance enforcement with caution as investigations continue.
