Ademola Adeleke Hails Saraki as Lifelong Political Mentor at PDP Youth Summit in Ilorin

Governor Ademola Adeleke Denies Plans to Dump PDP, Reaffirms Commitment to Osun People

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has described former Senate President Bukola Saraki as his mentor and lifelong political guide, crediting him for shaping his political journey.

Governor Adeleke made the remarks on Friday at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-organised youth summit held at the Alca Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, to mark Saraki’s 63rd birthday. He was represented at the event by his Senior Special Assistant, Bamikole Omishore.

According to Adeleke, his foray into politics began 14 years ago in Kwara State under Saraki’s mentorship, at a time when he had passion but lacked a clear political direction.

“Exactly 14 years ago, I first set foot in Kwara State. I was recruited by Dr Saraki at a time when I had no clear political direction, only passion—a young man in his late twenties, eager to contribute and to learn,” Adeleke said.

He noted that Saraki’s mentorship, discipline, guidance, and political education have remained central to his personal and political development, describing him as his “political radar for life.”

The Osun governor urged Nigerian youth to take responsibility for their future by actively participating in partisan politics, emphasizing dedication, discipline, and resilience.

He added that Kwara State has consistently produced leaders of national relevance and would continue to do so with the emergence of service-driven youths.

In his response, Saraki said the celebration would have been more elaborate if not for the prevailing insecurity and incidents of banditry in the state.

“The killings in the state and the general insecurity do not permit flamboyant celebration of the day,” he said.

Saraki described the summit as a platform for engagement between experienced politicians and young people, who he noted constitute about 70 percent of Nigeria’s population. He emphasized that the future of Kwara State and Nigeria depends largely on the youth.

“The future of Kwara and Nigeria at large depends on the people here in the hall,” he said, urging commitment, determination, and resilience in the pursuit of a better society.

He cautioned young people against blind loyalty to political leaders, advising them to make informed choices.

“Don’t follow any leader blindly; you must choose and follow the right leadership with open eyes,” Saraki said.

Meanwhile, PDP leaders at the event described Saraki as a unifying figure within the party. The PDP Women Leader in Kwara State, Aminat Ishola, referred to him as a dependable pillar of the party and a national political figure who has provided guidance at critical moments. She highlighted his inclusive leadership style and consistent support for women in politics.

Similarly, the state PDP Youth Leader, Adio Odunjo, said Saraki’s record in public service reflects a strong commitment to youth inclusion.

He recalled that many young people served in Saraki’s cabinet during his tenure as governor and as legislative aides when he was Senate President. Odunjo also cited the Not Too Young To Run Bill as a landmark youth-focused legislative achievement associated with Saraki’s leadership.

In his remarks, the Kwara State PDP Chairman, Isa Bawa, said the party remains committed to creating space for youths and women in politics, describing Saraki as a leader dedicated to service, inclusion, and empowerment.
