Veteran filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, have died, the family has confirmed in a brief statement describing the loss as devastating.
Authorities say the Los Angeles Police Department has launched a homicide investigation, with detectives dispatched to the couple’s residence. A law enforcement source told CNN that a family member was interviewed on Sunday evening as part of ongoing inquiries. Police confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deaths are still underway.
Rob Reiner, aged 78, was a towering figure in American film and television. He directed several iconic movies, including When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men, after first gaining fame as Archie Bunker’s son-in-law on the classic TV series All in the Family.
The Screen Actors Guild paid tribute to Reiner, describing him as “one of the most significant figures in the history of film and television.” SAG president Sean Astin highlighted Reiner’s nearly 60-year membership and praised his work for its lasting cultural impact.
Michele Singer Reiner, 67, was also an accomplished Hollywood professional, working as a producer, actor and photographer. She collaborated with her husband on several projects, including Shock and Awe and Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, released earlier this year.
She appeared in Nora Ephron’s Mixed Nuts, worked as a photographer on films such as Misery, earned an Emmy nomination for producing Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, and produced God and Country, a documentary exploring Christian nationalism in the United States.
Police say more details will be released as investigations continue.
