R&B singer Trey Songz has landed in legal trouble after being arrested in New York City over an alleged altercation at a nightclub.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of December 4 at Dramma Night Club in Times Square. Prosecutors allege that the singer, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, became angry after a staff member informed him the venue was closing around 4:25 a.m., and allegedly punched the worker in the face.
The 41-year-old was arraigned in Manhattan criminal court on an assault charge. He is also facing a second-degree mischief charge linked to a separate incident later that morning at Mira, a Manhattan restaurant and hookah lounge, where he is accused of causing about $1,500 worth of property damage.
Songz’s lawyer, Mitchell Schuster, disputed the allegations, insisting his client was provoked before the arrest.
“Despite being the target of the initial provocation, Trey was arrested,” he said.
Trey Songz was released on his own recognisance and is expected to return to court on February 18.
