Actress Shirley Igwe has expressed relief following the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s (AGN) decision to lift the suspension placed on her over an incident that occurred on a movie set in Lagos on July 19.
The AGN confirmed her reinstatement this week, ending months of uncertainty for the actress, who said the decision finally cleared her name. According to her, the support she received throughout the process helped her remain steady, and she is grateful that her side of the story has now been understood.
Reflecting on the July incident, Igwe stated that she acted purely in self-defence after the situation escalated beyond her control. She said the ordeal taught her to remain calm even when she feels unfairly treated and also revealed how quickly false narratives can spread in the industry.
The actress said the experience pushed her to work on being more composed during tense moments and to approach movie sets with renewed caution.
Going forward, Igwe plans to communicate more clearly and rely more heavily on her manager to navigate sensitive interactions and prevent future misunderstandings.
During her suspension, she said she took time off to rest, reflect and reconnect with her passion for acting. The break, according to her, helped her gain clarity about the kind of productions she wants to be associated with as she moves forward in her career.
