The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a stern warning to Nigerians applying for US visas, cautioning that providing false information or submitting fake documents could attract a lifetime ban from entering the country.
The embassy made this known in a post shared on X on Monday, where it emphasised that dishonesty during the visa application process is treated seriously under US immigration laws.
According to the statement, applicants found guilty of lying or presenting falsified documents risk being permanently barred from travelling to the United States, with no possibility of future eligibility.
The warning was issued on the same day the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, held talks with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, on strengthening cooperation between both countries.
The embassy noted that the United States remains committed to continued engagement with Nigeria on issues of mutual interest.
The development also comes amid increased diplomatic focus on Nigeria’s security situation, particularly in the North and Middle Belt regions, where concerns have been raised by some US lawmakers over attacks on communities and alleged violations of religious freedom.
