U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that American forces carried out airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in northwestern Nigeria.
Trump made the announcement on Christmas Day, stating that the operation targeted ISIS-affiliated terrorists operating in Sokoto State and marked the beginning of further military actions.
According to him, the strikes followed earlier warnings issued in November 2025, when he condemned the killing of Christians in Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central regions and vowed that his administration would not allow such attacks to continue.
After consultations with Nigerian authorities, the United States reportedly reached agreements on joint efforts against terrorism. The airstrikes were subsequently carried out on Thursday night in forest areas believed to be terrorist enclaves.
“In my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He added that under his leadership, there would be “no place for radical Islamic terrorism,” warning that further actions would follow.
