Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that divine intervention and the support of the people will guarantee his re-election later this year.
Adeleke spoke on Monday at a New Year interfaith prayer session held at the State Secretariat, which was attended by labour leaders, religious figures and public servants.
The governor said his administration has overcome numerous challenges in the past three years and would similarly surmount any obstacles ahead of the forthcoming election.
According to him, faith and resilience have sustained his government since he assumed office.
“Our God has remained our sustainer, defender and protector. From the very beginning, He has fought our battles for us. Those who rise against us are confronted by a higher power,” Adeleke said.
He described his administration as a product of divine grace, noting that his government had triumphed over challenges that once appeared impossible.
“We are living proof that God rules in the affairs of men. Time and again, we have overcome challenges and emerged victorious. As God remains the same yesterday, today and forever, we shall continue to prevail and remain undefeated,” he declared.
Adeleke also highlighted the achievements of his administration, stating that his government has pursued people-centred policies and delivered tangible results across key sectors of the state.
“From my first day in office, we prioritised programmes that directly impact the lives of our people. Three years on, we have kept faith with Osun residents and honoured our promises,” he said.
He listed interventions for senior citizens, support for the poor and vulnerable, rehabilitation of roads and bridges, empowerment of artisans, and reforms in education and healthcare as some of his administration’s achievements.
The governor further noted that his government is gradually resolving inherited salary and pension arrears, despite doubts from critics.
“Under very difficult circumstances, we are addressing half-salary payments and pension backlogs which some claimed were impossible to resolve. We have ensured that Osun resources work for Osun people and created a more enabling environment for investors,” Adeleke added.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reaffirmed labour’s support for Adeleke’s re-election, pledging that workers would vote en masse for him in the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Religious leaders, including the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Osun State, Dr John Adeleke, also offered prayers and goodwill messages, commending the governor’s public expression of faith and praying for divine guidance as he seeks re-election.
