Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa has reportedly advised Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave the Spanish giants, according to a report by El Nacional.
The England international only joined Los Blancos last summer after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer, although Madrid are said to have paid around €10 million in compensation to secure his availability for the Club World Cup.
However, Alexander-Arnold’s start to life at the Santiago Bernabéu has been far from smooth. Injury setbacks have limited his playing time, preventing the 27-year-old from establishing himself as a regular starter under former manager Xabi Alonso and now Arbeloa.
The report claims that Arbeloa has since held direct talks with the defender, advising him to seek a move away from the club during the upcoming summer transfer window. According to the discussion, Alexander-Arnold was informed that he is not part of Real Madrid’s long-term plans, with the decision said to be based purely on sporting considerations.
If the reports are accurate, the summer window could mark a swift end to Alexander-Arnold’s brief and troubled spell in LaLiga.
