Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of inflicting deep damage on Nigeria’s national life, describing the current administration as the worst he has witnessed in nearly four decades of political involvement.
Atiku made the remarks while speaking at a book launch, where he expressed optimism about the growing unity among politicians from different backgrounds under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He described the ADC as a unique political platform bringing together people of diverse political ideologies with a shared objective of reuniting the country and renewing Nigeria’s democratic journey.
“If there is anything positive in our recent political development, it is this coming together to rescue the country from what I consider the worst administration I have witnessed in nearly four decades of political life,” Atiku said.
He further argued that even past military regimes did not damage Nigeria’s national consciousness to the extent he believes the current administration has.
“Not even the military dictatorships before 1999 damaged our national life and consciousness in the way this administration has done,” he added.
The former vice president noted that many individuals present at the event were founding members of the APC, which he said failed to live up to its original promise of rescuing the nation.
“Many of us here were part of the formation of the APC. Unfortunately, what we believed would rescue the country has not happened,” Atiku said.
He concluded by calling for renewed collective action to build a viable alternative political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges and restoring public confidence in governance.
