Brennan Johnson Completes £35m Switch from Tottenham to Crystal Palace

Wales international Brennan Johnson has completed a move from Tottenham Hotspur to Crystal Palace for a reported fee of £35 million ($47 million).

The 24-year-old forward has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Eagles, making him the club’s record signing.

Johnson is expected to make his Crystal Palace debut on Sunday when Oliver Glasner’s side face Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the Premier League.

Expressing his excitement after completing the transfer, Johnson said:

“I’m really excited and I’m really happy. Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I’ve always admired. It’s a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on.”

Palace manager Oliver Glasner welcomed the signing, highlighting the attacker’s versatility and attacking threat.
“Brennan will give us options in our attacking play with his pace and goalscoring ability,” Glasner said.

Johnson enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring 18 goals for Tottenham and netting the decisive winner in the Europa League final against Manchester United, which ended Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought. Despite his contributions, he fell out of favour after Thomas Frank arrived, mainly serving as a backup to Mohammed Kudus.

The move comes as a timely boost for Crystal Palace, with Glasner recently admitting his squad was operating in “survival mode” after a 1-1 draw with Fulham.

The FA Cup holders currently sit 10th in the Premier League and will be looking to end a six-match winless run across all competitions when they travel to Newcastle this weekend.
