American rapper Cardi B has fired back at a viral claim alleging that her father was convicted of attempted rape, describing the story as false and malicious.
The rumour originated from a parody X (formerly Twitter) account that circulated a fabricated screenshot, falsely attributed to X’s AI assistant, Grok. The post claimed that Cardi B’s father, Carlos Almanzar, was convicted of attempted rape in 1993 and served five years in prison.
However, when another user requested a fact-check, Grok denied the claim, stating that the screenshot was fabricated and that no public court records supported the allegation. The AI tool noted that the claims were unverified rumours and had previously been denied by Cardi B.
Reacting on Monday, the Grammy-winning artist dismissed the allegation, explaining that her father immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic and would have been deported immediately if he had committed such an offence.
“I don’t know why y’all like playing these games just for you to be fake mad when I post who got those real mugshots, real evidence, and real cases for rape,” she wrote, warning people to stop dragging her family into false narratives.
In a follow-up post, Cardi B threatened legal action against those spreading the claim.
“Y’all know I don’t play about my family. Now when I start suing people then what?” she said, condemning the spread of rape-related falsehoods as disturbing and irresponsible.
