A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aisha Yesufu, has warned that she will oppose any presidential ticket in the 2027 general election that features Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate.
In a video circulating on social media, the socio-political activist insisted that the former Anambra State governor should only contest as a presidential candidate, describing him as the best among the aspirants.
Yesufu vowed to actively work against any ticket that relegates Obi to a deputy position, stressing that the practice of sidelining strong candidates must stop.
“I’m giving you people my word. If Peter Obi emerges as a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket,” Aisha Yesufu said. “In my little capacity, I will work against them even if I don’t support any other candidates. Why are we always asking the best to be the second?”
CREEBHILLS reports that Obi, who recently joined the ADC—a party adopted by a coalition of opposition figures seeking to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027—is among the aspirants eyeing the party’s presidential ticket.
However, there are speculations that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may emerge as the party’s flagbearer, with Obi possibly being considered as his running mate.
