Nigerian highlife singer Flavour has fired back at an X (formerly Twitter) user who accused him of deliberately refusing to sign or collaborate with young, talented Igbo singers out of fear that they might outshine him.
The accusation followed Flavour’s recent musical collaboration with a Nigerian cleric, which sparked debate online.
In a post that gained traction, the X user alleged that Flavour chose to work with the cleric because the cleric posed no threat to his music career.
The user further claimed that Flavour has consistently avoided collaborating with emerging Igbo artistes, suggesting that the singer is afraid they could displace him in the industry.
Flavour, however, did not ignore the comment. The singer saw the post and responded, pushing back against the allegations and addressing the claims made against him.
While the details of Flavour’s full response have continued to circulate online, his reaction has reignited conversations around mentorship, collaboration, and competition within the Nigerian music industry, particularly among Igbo artistes.
The exchange has since drawn mixed reactions on social media, with some users defending Flavour’s career choices and others debating the expectations placed on established artistes to support younger talents.
