Nicki Minaj has found herself at the centre of renewed political controversy following her continued support for United States President Donald Trump and her upcoming appearance at the Trump Accounts Summit in Washington, D.C.
The Trinidadian superstar recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate her role as a guest speaker at the summit scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, an event President Trump is also expected to attend. Minaj shared a post from a fan explaining the Trump Accounts investment initiative and its potential economic benefits for American families.
“The true meaning of paying it forward,” Nicki Minaj wrote. “Early financial literacy & financial support for our children will give them a major head start in life. In some cases, they will end up teaching their very own parents how to invest & what to invest in. This makes me very happy.”
According to AllHipHop, the Trump Accounts initiative has attracted backing from several high-profile figures and institutions, including billionaire philanthropists, major corporations and business leaders such as Michael Dell, Ray Dalio and Kevin O’Leary, alongside Republican members of Congress and Fortune 500 CEOs. Reports suggest Minaj may appear virtually at the event rather than in person.
The Trump Accounts program is designed to create tax-advantaged retirement investment accounts for U.S. children born between January 1 this year and December 2028. The initiative is closely tied to the U.S. stock market and domestic businesses, with the broader goal of encouraging childbirth through long-term financial incentives.
Nicki Minaj’s involvement, however, has drawn criticism from sections of her fanbase and the wider public. Many have pointed to her recent political statements, including claims about religious persecution in Nigeria and a public online dispute with journalist Don Lemon over comments he made during coverage of an anti-ICE protest at a church in Minneapolis.
Some fans, known as Barbz, have described her continued support of the Trump administration as a betrayal, with critics resurfacing past posts in which Minaj referenced being an immigrant in the United States. These posts have reignited accusations of hypocrisy, given her alignment with political policies and figures known for hardline immigration stances.
As reactions continue to pour in, Nicki Minaj remains unapologetic, signalling that her involvement in political and economic discussions is far from over.
