Tinubu appoints first female DG Nigerian Law School

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Odusote’s four-year tenure will commence on January 10, 2026.

Dr Odusote, 54, is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School. Her appointment makes her the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

She will succeed the outgoing Director-General, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also earned a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, before proceeding to the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where she obtained a PhD in Law.

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since served in several key roles, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

A seasoned legal academic, Odusote has published widely in reputable local and international journals and presented papers at various legal education conferences. She has also served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, she will oversee the academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all campuses, while serving as the institution’s primary liaison with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
