“I Will Work With Any Political Party” — Iyabo Ojo Breaks Silence Over FAAN Video Backlash

I was young when I fell out of my marriage, if I was this wiser, it wouldn’t end that way – Iyabo Ojo

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has stated that she is open to collaborating with any political party committed to building a better Nigeria, following backlash over her promotional video for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The controversy began after FAAN shared a video on X showing the actress praising visible upgrades at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. In the clip, Iyabo commended what she described as improvements at the airport, later reposting it with the caption:

“FAAN is changing for the better in so many ways. I’m so proud of my country.”

The post quickly sparked mixed reactions online, largely because of her known political stance during the 2023 general elections, where she publicly supported Peter Obi and criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu. Some social media users questioned whether her involvement signified a political shift.

Amid the speculation, FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, dismissed claims that Iyabo had been awarded a contract or appointed as an ambassador for the agency.

Addressing the backlash directly on Instagram, Iyabo insisted she was not paid for the video and maintained that her decision was motivated by patriotism rather than politics.

“I’m Nigerian. And I’m a voice. When I see progress, airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved etc, I shout it from the rooftops if need be, not because I am being paid, not because I am political, but because I feel it and I want good for my country.

“I will continue to use my craft, my voice, to promote Nigeria, and I am unapologetic about it.

“FAAN approached me that you have seen the changes. Please help us spread the word. So I did it for free. No contract. Just love for Nigeria. If Nigeria must rise we ALL must build it. Silence helps no one. I will work with any political party as long as it is building a better tomorrow for our dear nation. No agenda. Just hands joined. Let’s stop dividing.”

Her response comes at a time when political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections are intensifying, with reports of celebrities and influencers being appointed to lead support groups linked to President Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Iyabo’s stance appears to position her less as a partisan figure and more as someone advocating for national development, regardless of political affiliations. While some have applauded her for promoting infrastructure improvements, others remain sceptical, citing her previous political activism.

The debate underscores the increasing intersection between celebrity influence and political narratives in Nigeria’s evolving public space.
