“Our Differences Shouldn’t Affect Our Daughter” – Iyabo Ojo Explains Why She Included Ex-Husband in Priscilla’s Wedding

Iyabo Ojo Defends Nollywood’s Spiritual Themes

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has explained why she ensured her former husband, Ademidun Ojo, played an active role in their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding, saying she refused to allow their past relationship to affect their daughter’s happiness.

Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Show, the actress said she deliberately put aside their differences because she wanted to break the cycle of broken family relationships and give her children a better experience.

Iyabo, who married Ademidun Ojo in 1999 before their marriage ended in 2001, revealed that her own childhood influenced her decision regarding Priscilla’s wedding.

According to her, growing up with separated parents made her determined not to repeat the same pattern with her own children.

“I don’t know, there’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe in it. Christians also. I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it.”

She continued:

“So I made up my mind that whatever situation had happened, because my dad and my mum were also not together, every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it.”

The actress said she intentionally set aside her personal emotions for the sake of her daughter’s future.

“So I had to put aside what I felt, my differences, and play my part. That’s why I said I have paid the price for her to succeed and for her to be happy in her marriage.”

Iyabo stressed that regardless of what happened between her and her former husband, he remains Priscilla’s father and deserved to be present on one of the most important days of her life.

“Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there? He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. It has nothing to do with her.”

She added that the issues between them as former spouses should never affect their children.

“I made the choice to marry him. So whatever is going on between me and him is between me and him. It shouldn’t extend to my children.”

According to Iyabo, her priority was to ensure that Priscilla began her married life surrounded by the love and support of both parents, rather than allowing old disagreements to overshadow the celebration.

Her remarks have been widely praised by fans, many of whom commended her for choosing maturity and prioritizing her daughter’s happiness over past differences.
