Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade has spoken out against the growing expectation that actors dance on social media as part of movie promotion, calling the trend unprofessional and misplaced.
Speaking during an interview on TVC Entertainment, Omotola made it clear that while she enjoys dancing, it should remain a personal choice — not a compulsory requirement tied to marketing a film.
According to the actress, the backlash against viral promotional stunts stems from the pressure placed on actors to perform online just to sell their projects.
She stressed that there is a clear distinction between willingly promoting a film and being forced into performative trends.
Omotola explained that her primary responsibility is to act in the movie, discuss the project during press engagements, and participate in standard promotional activities — not to replace marketers and distributors whose job it is to handle advertising strategies.
“I’m sorry, but I won’t be dancing to market or promote my movie. It’s not professional,” she said.
“I’ve done the movie, now I just have to go around and promote it.”
She further warned that turning movie promotion into mandatory social media performances undermines professionalism in the industry and shifts attention away from the creative work itself.
The actress made the remarks ahead of her upcoming film Mother’s Love, which is scheduled for release on March 6.
Omotola’s comments have since sparked conversations online, with many industry observers and fans debating the balance between modern digital marketing and maintaining professional boundaries in Nollywood.
