“F*** Dem Kids, You are still a woman” — Uche Ogbodo Urges Mothers to Invest in Themselves, Not Lose Their Identity

Nigerian actress Uche Ogbodo has sparked widespread conversation after delivering a blunt, emotional message urging mothers to prioritise their personal growth, confidence, and mental health alongside caring for their families.

Sharing a video of herself confidently showing off her new body, the actress challenged societal expectations placed on women after childbirth.

“F*** dem kids. Moms invest in yourselves too. You deserve to look good,” she wrote.

In a longer reflection, Uche addressed what she described as the silent emotional toll many mothers experience.

“Sometimes, in the journey of motherhood, we lose ourselves.
We give birth. We nurture. We sacrifice. We pour into our children and our husbands until there is nothing left for us.”

She spoke candidly about body shaming, exhaustion, and declining self-esteem, warning that these pressures often spiral into deeper emotional struggles.

“Your body changes. Your confidence fades. Your mind feels heavy… darker than you expected.
And before you even understand what’s happening, depression starts to whisper lies — that you’re no longer beautiful, no longer enough.”

The actress also touched on how neglecting self-care can affect marriages and relationships.

“It begins to affect your relationship. Communication shifts. Intimacy weakens. Distance grows.
And sometimes… he, the man you’ve sacrificed everything for, walks away.”

Uche emphasised that motherhood should not come at the cost of a woman’s identity or wellbeing.

“Motherhood should not cost you your identity.
It should not cost you your mental health.
And it should not cost you your worth.”

Encouraging women to reclaim themselves without guilt, she concluded:

“You are still a woman. You are still beautiful. You are still deserving of care, healing, and softness.
Take care of yourself too. Pour into yourself too.
Because when a woman is whole, she shines — not just for others, but for herself.”

Her post has since drawn mixed reactions online, with many applauding her honesty and others debating her choice of words — but few denying the raw reality behind her message.
