Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has publicly acknowledged the role played by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in his emergence as governor, stating that he would not be in office without Wike’s support.
Fubara made the remarks on Friday while receiving the New Telegraph Man of the Year Award, expressing gratitude to the former Rivers governor for giving him the platform to contest for the state’s top seat.
Despite the well-known rift between the two political figures, Fubara openly credited Wike for identifying and supporting him politically.
Speaking at the ceremony, Fubara said, “I do not care how you interpret it or misinterpret it. I also dedicate this award to somebody who also discovered me not minding the situation, the Honorable Minister of the FCT, my oga, Nyesom Wike.
“Without him, I wouldn’t be standing here as governor. He discovered me and it’s a discovery that gave me this loudness. Thank you for everything.
“I also dedicate this award to the people of Rivers State that have shown support, quietness and maturity that has brought us this far.”
His comments come amid ongoing political tensions between both camps, making the public acknowledgment particularly notable as political observers continue to monitor developments in the state.
