FC Barcelona is reportedly prepared to listen to offers for Jules Kounde, despite the defender signing a contract extension until 2030 just last summer.
The France international is no longer considered untouchable within the squad, with his status said to have shifted under head coach Hansi Flick.
Role shift impacting form
Koundé has frequently been deployed at right-back this season rather than his natural centre-back position—where he built his reputation. This tactical adjustment, combined with inconsistent performances, has reportedly influenced Barcelona’s openness to offers.
The 25-year-old had previously revealed that his decision to join Barcelona over other clubs, including Chelsea FC, was based on assurances from former manager Xavi Hernandez that he would primarily play at centre-back.
“I chose Barca because I know that most of the time I will play in this position,” Koundé had said at the time.
Injury setback compounds issues
Koundé is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in a recent match against Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona confirmed that the defender suffered damage to the biceps femoris muscle in his left hamstring, with his return dependent on recovery progress.
Transfer interest and club stance
Interest in Koundé is not new. Manchester City previously made enquiries, although sporting director Deco stated that no formal bid was submitted.
Barcelona, currently leading La Liga ahead of Real Madrid, is expected to evaluate any offers carefully as it balances squad restructuring with ongoing financial considerations.
Bottom line
Koundé’s situation reflects a mix of tactical misalignment, injury setbacks, and strategic planning—factors that could determine whether Barcelona decide to cash in on the defender despite his long-term contract.
